XR RESIDENCY FARNESE-MEDICI 2026-2027

Call for applications open until March 17, 2026 (included)

Launched in 2022 by NewImages, the Institut Français d’Italie and the Académie de France à Rome - Villa Médicis, the XR Farnese-Medici Residency returns for its fifth edition. The program is open to XR creators based in France who wish to develop the prototype of an immersive project while immersing themselves in the Italian cultural and XR ecosystem and fostering lasting collaborations between France and Italy. 

What the residency offers

  • A one-month residency at Villa Medici (Rome) in October 2026
  • Accommodation fully covered at Villa Medici
  • A €6,000 grant to cover travel and living expenses
  • A year-long accompaniment within the Italian XR ecosystem
  • Regular access to a workspace at Villa Medici
  • Artistic and technical mentorship
  • Networking opportunities within the Italian digital and cultural sector
  • Participation in and presentation opportunities at Venice XR, Torino Film Industry, Bright Festival and Videocittà
  • Opportunities to present the prototype to professional and international audiences

Eligible projects

  • XR / Extended Reality projects (VR 360 or interactive, AR, MR, immersive installations, immersive sound, 4D, etc.)
  • Projects in development or prototype stage
  • Led by an established artist or professional in the digital or immersive field

Eligibility requirements

✓ Be 18 years old or older
✓ Reside in France
✓ Be a French citizen or permanent resident
✓ Have previous experience in the field of digital and/or immersive arts
Proficiency in English required (Italian is a plus)

Learning Lab Residency 2026 - Yerevan, Armenia

Launched in 2026 by NewImages and TUMO, the Learning Lab Residency is a new program dedicated to artists and professionals working in immersive and digital creation who wish to develop a project prototype while collaborating with students in an innovative educational environment.

The residency takes place at the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in Yerevan, Armenia, an internationally recognised learning centre at the intersection of technology, design and creative practices.

The program invites selected artists to design and lead a hands-on workshop with approximately 20 students, enabling them to develop an immersive project prototype while sharing their creative practice with the next generation of creators.

What the residency offers

  • A 2 to 4-week residency in July 2026 in Yerevan, Armenia
  • Round-trip travel to Yerevan covered
  • Accommodation provided for the duration of the residency
  • A fully equipped workspace at the TUMO Center
  • Access to state-o-the-art computer equipment
  • Support from the TUMO Learning Lab team
  • Opportunity to develop a prototype collaboratively with approximately 20 students
  • Opportunity to explore Armenia’s digital and creative ecosystem

Eligible projects:

  • XR / Extended Reality projects (VR 360 or interactive, AR, MR, interactive experiences, immersive installations, spatial sound, etc.)
  • Digital and immersive projects in development or prototype stage
  • Projects led by an artist, creator or professional working in immersive media

Eligible requirements:

✓ Be 18 years old or older
✓ Be an artist, creator, or project leader working in XR or immersive media
Fluency in English required
✓ Demonstrate professional experience in digital art or immersive media
✓ Strong motivation to work with teenagers in a collaborative learning environment

Paris XR Vancouver Residency 2026

Launched in 2025 by NewImages and the Institut français du Canada, the Paris XR Residency returns for a second edition. The program is open to XR creators based in Western Canada who wish to develop a prototype immersive project while immersing themselves in the French cultural and XR ecosystem.

What the residency offers

  • A 4 to 8-week residency in Paris
  • Accommodation covered
  • Round-trip airfare Canada ↔ Paris
  • A €1,950 grant (including per diem)
  • Workspace at the Carrefour Numérique, Cité des sciences et de l’industrie
  • Professional accreditation for NewImages Festival 2026
  • Networking opportunities within the French and international XR ecosystem
  • Public and professional presentation of the prototype

Eligible projects

The program is open to XR creators based in the State of Ceará (Brazil) who wish to develop a prototype immersive project while immersing themselves in the French cultural and XR ecosystem.
