NewImages OnTour x TUMO Portugal

NewImages OnTour begins its journey with TUMO Portugal. Across three learning centres, teenagers discover five immersive artworks and take part in hands-on workshops exploring mixed reality, sound, artificial intelligence and the images around us.

Each artwork opens a conversation: What did we feel? How was it made? What questions does it raise? Through discussion and creative practice, young participants begin to develop their own perspectives as viewers, creators and future curators of immersive art.

This first stop is a pilot developed with TUMO Portugal and its learning coaches.

NewImages OnTour x TUMO brings immersive art into the places where young people learn, experiment and create. Its first stop takes place across three TUMO centres in Portugal, with five immersive artworks, guided conversations and hands-on workshops developed by NewImages with TUMO Portugal and its learning coaches.

Participants are invited to do more than experience a work. They share what they felt, explore how it was made and discuss the questions it raises. Each artwork becomes a starting point for learning about images, technology and the world around them.

From experience to discussion and creation

After encountering the works, young people compare their interpretations. What stayed with them? How did the artistic and technical choices shape their feelings? Would they want to share an experience with their family or friends? What subjects would they like future works to explore?

Hands-on workshops give participants ways to investigate these questions through creative practice.

The NewImages team and TUMO learning coaches guide the activities together. The artworks provide starting points for artistic discovery, media literacy and conversations about topics that matter to the young people taking part.

A pilot shaped by its participants

This first edition tests how artworks, workshops and discussions can work together across three learning centres. The programme could reach up to 1,500 different young people over six days; the pilot will help refine that estimate and the format of future stops.

NewImages OnTour aims to give young people a growing role in sharing immersive art with their communities: first as viewers, then as creators and mediators, and eventually as curators. The programme also envisages bringing young participants together at NewImages Festival in Paris in April 2027 to discuss artworks from artistic, technical and audience perspectives.
